Rum Show
The International Rum Festival, St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. We showed up, but our rum didn’t. We had to use the four bottles that we had in our carry-on luggage for a three day rum show! Instead of making a big deal of not having any product, we just told the truth - we had no rum left! Everyone seemed happy just to get a sniff of the rum ‘good enough to sell out in a day’!! And then our initial worries were completely wiped out when we won a gold medal with our vanilla rum…! – Zach Brinley, September 2002.
Customs
My two productive and crazy weeks in St. Kitts ended with a U.S. Customs agent raking my baggage for contraband and interrogating me in Puerto Rico. “Is this rum all yours?” “Yes,” I said nervously. “They’re all the same. I guess this is your favorite brand,” he said, never matching the name on the label with my passport.” – Zach Brinley, January 2003
